The photo this detail is taken from is for sale on ebay. Can anyone tell me the sigificance of the number 121 on the tape over the left pocket; and just what is the patch on the pocket itself?

For what it's worth I think I can discern the letters XN above a 5.

HGU-2 single visor housing F-105

The inside of the housing is written "completed 100 combat missions" "1 APR 67" and belonged to a Major, named Russell.

As for the colors, I was thinking about the 13th TFS, based in Korat and flying on F-105 until Oct 1967.

Yes you read well 83rd SAG and not 83rd SOG.

Does anyone know what is stands for??? My guess will be Special Activity Group, but I am not sure... Any details?

This patch is on an advisor flight suit. He was attached to the 522nd FS (skyraider). The suit is also adorn with the 83rd SOG (Than Phong) patch.

A french website claims it is the Merite militaire du combattant (Fighter military merit)???

And would this one be the wounded medal (as the french and south vietnamese medal with the red star?)???

The name is more than uncommun. Very often the vietnamese have problem with the spelling of the sound "tch", with can be written "ch" or "tr". But still, it remains weird... but a 100% original.

CIDG/SOG Ruck?

Just pick up an hour ago in one of my favorite dealer shop in SGN.

It has the same shape as the two usual SOG rucks (coton and nylon straps).

On this one the nylon straps are wider, and the buckles looks almost the same as the ARVN rucksack (but no anchors stamped in the metal).

No marking inside.

Any clue?

Vietnam tailor made.

It is inspired of the French ranks. Usually, the vietnamese model has a button with a dragon which is designed on it. It is not the case here.

I assume it is part of the transition period? 1955/1959??

I bought it at the same time as two pairs of VNAF shoulder ranks (NCO). Any links? On those the button represents the VNAF wings.

The shoulder tab says "Shadow". The South Vietnamese Police patch was worn only by units based in South Vietnam, but the only Security Police Squadron documented with a Shadow Flight was the 8th SPS in Ubon Thailand. This jacket has to be from a South VN based squadron; which one?
